Alun Maxwell Thomas concluded a distinguished 34-year career in British Policing with the British Transport Police (BTP) in January 2018. Following his service, he served as the Chief Security Advisor for the FIFA Football World Cup 2022 in Qatar, successfully completing his assignment upon the tournament's delivery in December 2022.

During his time in the UK, he held the rank of Assistant Chief Constable for Specialist Operations across the entire BTP and was previously a Chief Superintendent leading Specialist Operations within South Wales Police. He was nationally accredited across a wide range of disciplines, an experienced capital city commander, and led national high-profile operations. His responsibilities included managing the national threat to the UK Rail network and integrating BTP into wider UK police operations to optimise protective security and response.

He served as the UK Transport lead for major international events, such as the 2016 European football championships in France, where he integrated BTP into the French Rail network to support UK fans through liaison with the French and British embassies. He was instrumental in building a specialist operations department for BTP capable of responding nationally. Additionally, he was the tactical commander for the 2014 NATO summit and personally briefed Prime Minister Cameron at Downing Street.

He has led complex security operations at all levels, including the TFL for Notting Hill Carnival (one million attendees) and New Year's Eve rail operations across the UK. He has commanded continuously at strategic and tactical levels for public order and specialist operations, including numerous large-scale sporting events. He is highly experienced in navigating complex political and Network Rail stakeholder environments and is an expert in advising organisations on defending against security threats. He is also a qualified trainer and assessor, supporting organisations through educational and training processes.

He holds a Master's Degree in Public Administration and was awarded the Queen's Police Medal (QPM) by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in the 2017 Birthday Honours List.
